Hi. I just got a new PC (spec's below), & want to do a clean re-install of Windows to remove all the pre-installed rubbish.
The guy at the shop told me I'd need to do all of the Windows Updates (which is fine), but I've noticed there were already some Updates & Hot-Fixes installed. Also I noticed that he hadn't installed all the Drivers & Utilities from the mobo DVD.
My girlfriends ASRock mobo needed some Hot-Fixes before installing the Realtek Audio Driver, & also because of a USB not working after returning from Hibernation problem.
So I was wondering if the pre-installed Updates & Hot-Fixes on my ROG mobo were for the same sort of thing, & if so, what Updates & Hot-Fixes I need ?
Thanks in advance for any & all answers.

ASUS Maximus VI Hero
Intel i7-4770K @ 3.5GHz
Coolermaster V4 GTS CPU Cooler (thinking about upgrading)
Gigabyte R9 270X 2GB
16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
1TB HDD (thinking about adding a SSD)
DVD-RW 24x (thinking about upgrading for a Blu-Ray RW)
750W 80P Bronze Corsair MPSU
Corsair Graphite 600T Case
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Mainly used for gaming. Also, any tips on upgrading for faster/ better speed & performance would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Solution
I'd download all the latest mobo drivers from the Asus site (and check BIOS version while there, then just load all of those, then start up the Win updates

Hi, Tradesman1.
Thanks for the fast answer. Must be getting into summer for you, because it's getting into winter for me. Wife & I have spent over $100 trying to dust proof our flat (you'd call it an apartment), & it seems to be better. Anyway...
My bios version is 1203 x64. Do you think I should update it ? The version I have says it has 4th gen. support, & my CPU is i7-4770K (fairly sure that's 4th gen ?). The newer bios version says it has System Stability, but also says to install Bios Updater first ? Can I just use the EZ Updater in the AI3 Suite ?
Just finished downloading Drivers & Utilities from Asus site, but I'm off to work so can't install until later tonight.
Also as an extra question, do you know what SMX Technology is ? Noticed it when looking through the bios.
Thanks again for your answer, I'll mark you as best answer (only answer so far, lol).
Cheers from Australia.

Glad to know my bios is good. :D
I've seen a lot of post's about updating bios & various problems, so I was a bit worried about doing it.
Guess I'll need to google the Keplar thing. I just checked my bios & it says "Intel SMX Technology - Not Supported", does that matter ?
Also would you suggest I use the 4-Way Optimisation in AI Suite3 ? I've never overclocked before, but have been watching heaps of videos on You-Tube about it & am quite confused. So I'm wondering if the auto-overclocking might be easier for me ? :??:
Thanks again for the info

Legenda in Aeternum
Give it a try, manually is better and can get better results if you put in the time, but if you take screenshots of the BIOS at stock, then let the AI suite do the OCing (or the built in tuning in the BIOS options for 4.3, 4.4, 4.6) you can then get screen shots of what all theose methods changed adn use them as a guide to work with the voltages and settings to improve the OC

Hi again m8.
This may be an easy answer, but I'm a bit confused.
I'm running Win.7 64bit. On the Hero Mobo DVD, I've looked at the FILESLIST.txt & there seem to be 32 & 64 bit versions of many of the drivers & programs. But when I went to install Adobe X, the Install-Wizard wants to put it in Program Files (x86), which is the 32bit program folder. Is that normal ? Or is there a way to install the 64bit version (if there is one) ? I've noticed my USB3.0 files (& AISuite3 & many others) are also wanting to be put in the 32bit folder.
Looking through the DVD files, it seems there are lots of 64bit files, as well as 32 bit files for the same Drivers/Programs. Do I need to do more than just Double Clicking the exe, or opening the AsSetUp & going from there ?
I just installed WinZip from the DVD & it went into the 64bit Program Folder !?!?
Sorry for the long description. I'm going to repeat this Question in the Windows 7 section so you can probably get another Best Answer.
Thanks again for ALL your help.
