Building a new pc hopefully in the holiday's. I'm pretty tight on budget, I've bought everything apart from the CPU now. I was about to get the AMD FX 6300 but I saw the FX 8320.
It's about £30 more and has 2 more cores. I would use it for mild gaming and video editing (not extremely intense though).
Should I get the 6300 and get the 8350 later on when I have more money or get the 8320 now and overclock it.- But I can't really spend much more at the moment.....

Thanks

First, MAKE SURE you have a good 8+2 power phase board. This will best support your upgrade plans and overclocking. Something like a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 (or UD3P) or the GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev. 4.0 will be very good for a single or dual GPU setup, respectively. You need something in that class for the 8 core FX series.

* IF * You have a 4+1 power phase board, you need to stick with the FX 6300. The FX 8320 might 'work' on 4+1 power, but I would NOT overclock unless you like electric sparks, fire and smoke. ;)

For a moderate OC on either CPU, you need a good cooler. The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO is a good cooler that won't break the bank. I've had an FX 6300 @ 4.4GHz under it and also an FX 8350 at 4.4GHz. It kept both well...
The best option would be to get the FX-8320 now if you can afford it. It's a better option then getting the FX-6300 now and the FX-8320 later and having to resell the 6300. But it's your budget and finances so you will have to do what's best for you. If it was me I would attempt to just get the 8320 and not have to worry about the reselling.

I've had an FX 6300 @ 4.4GHz under it and also an FX 8350 at 4.4GHz. It kept both well beneath their thermal threshold at full load, but it was pretty much at it's limit with the OCd 8350. The 8320 will put off simialr thermals at speed.

As long as those 2 prerequisites above are met by what you already have, you have a good foundation and are ready to go. Then you can decide which CPU to get based on how much of your budget is left. If you can do the 8320 and get a midrange OC out of it you should be good for a while.

* If * Your budget allows for the 8320 and has a little extra room, a better cooler would be a good idea. The Noctua NH-D14 or Phanteks TC14PE are both very good, but larger than the Hyper 212 EVO. So make sure you can fit it in your case. ;)

I'm going with the FX 6300. I can't really spend any more at the moment and I think that will meet my requirements for now. I'll probably upgrade in a year or two but better CPU's will be out then so I'll see what happens.
Thanks for the advice

Thats the processor that i went with and its been great the whole time, temps are good and game play is stable. Plus, when overclocked this processor is supposed to shine. It will hold out until new cpus' are released.
