Hey All,

So I'm looking for a monitor for my new PC build. Currently I am using a Samsung 23" TV I have.

I've been looking at 2 different monitors, both are different so I guess I direct comparison is not possible.

The montors are Asus PB278Q & Asus VG248QE

So the first is better resolution but the second is 144hz.
Basically I use my PC for gaming, Mostly playing Arma but other games too. Is the higher resolution better or the faster refresh rate.

If it helps my system build is:
I7-4470k
Asus Maximus IV Hero
GTX 780

Thanks

The PB278Q is based on IPS (PLS is based on IPS) panel, which offers better viewing angle and color reproduction. I tend to pick IPS for office works or photo/video editing rig.
The VG248QE is based on TN panel, which offer speed for smoother gaming experience. Pure gamer will want this above all.
Moreover, VG248QE is 3D capable and the PB278Q can not.

More resolution like on PB278Q means sharper and more detailed picture in games but will put more load on the GPU, you would probaly have to upgrade the GPU sooner in the future if you go with higher resolution.
Less resolution like on VG248QE means less sharp and less detailed picture in games. Less pixel means less load on the GPU..well...at least usually..but as soon as you use the...

I am not good with monitors, but depending on the GPU, I would go for the best resolution. That is just my choice. Faster would get you smoother graphics, then so would a decent GPU.

MOre pixel means also that you see more.

From my experience:
New TN (VG248QE ) monitors has less picture quality than IPS/PLS but the difference is not as extreme as people told.
IPS (PB278Q ) is slower/smoother than TN for gaming, but some people can not even tell the difference.

Either than these infos, I can not help you decide. It is about preferences.

Thanks for such a detailed reply. I am aware it comes down to preference but just wanted a run down of the technical difference to help with that. Thank you for the information.
