Overclocking FX-6300 and GTX660 on a Gigabyte 970a-ds3p mobo

My setup is:
Cpu: FX-6300 Black Edition
Mobo: Gigabyte 970a-ds3p
Gpu: Gigabyte Geforce GTX660 (OC Edition)
Psu: Corsair CX500M

First, is it possible to overclock the CPU to 4.5GHz? I've been trying but as fast as i go higher than 4.1GHz (Normal boost speed), it throws a bluescreen at me, or it doesn't start at all.
If it is, then (exactly) what settings do you use?

Second, what's the safe clock for the Graphics card and how do you get there?

Thanks! :)

I am not sure, you will need a massive cooler. I would say you need to raise the VCore if you are bluescreening. Try downloading Prime95 and running it after starting from the first OC you thought was fine. It will check for errors, or issues in the calculating. As for the GPU, I would say there is no such thing as a "good" OC, just try an OC program like PRECISION X or the one made by MSI. GPU OC is the hardest in my opinion.
  2. Okey thanks, I'll be having an OC competition against my dad and my brother later today so I just wondered how I should get the max out of it :)

Oh... A competition :) I would do it like so. Raise the VCore a small amount (.25 or less) see what frequency you can get upping the multiplier, then repeat.
  4. I wouldn't overclock until you upgrade the power supply , the CX500 has cheap capacitors and will fail when stressed.
