its an HP pavilion laptop with the following spec:
windows 8.1
AMD A8-4555M @ 1.6GHz
1TB HD
8GB RAM
AMD radeon HD 7600G graphics card

would this be able to run arma 3 fairly smoothly at decent settings? It running smoothly is the main priority to be honest.

I would say that build is enough to run Arma 3. Although the CPU may be a little weak. You can always turn shadows up to very high as that puts the load on the GPU (low setting puts its on the CPU)

you can also try some of these tweaks i found here..

Okay great thanks, so would I be right in assuming there are other UI tweaks I could make that would put some of the load on the GPU rather than CPU? and what sort of fps do you think I might achieve?

Yeah there is a Huge List of them in that link, and as far as FPS, its really hard to tell with mobile hardware but i bet you could run the game on medium easy with some tweaks (easy as in 60fps) you may even be able to play it on high.. Very High or Ultra (i forgot what they use) would probably be un-playable at under 30fps
