Router or wifi extender/wireless access point ?

Hi guys
I want to ask which is better repeter, Router or wifi extender. I can't buy powerline because the distance is pretty big. So, router or extender.

Powerline should pretty much work anywhere in your house unless you have some 10000 sqft mansion.

I am going to assume that you can not run a ethernet cable which is the best option.

Then the only other way to is to use a wireless repeater/extender. SOME routers can do this but not all so you need to read the features. Any form of wireless repeater is going to greatly degrade your signals. You will lose 50% of the speed at a minimum. Also placement of the device is critical. It must be place in a location that is received very good signal from the main router but is still close enough to the end user devices that it can provide good signal to them. You generally want to place a wireless repeater 1/2 between.

Still you should only use a repeater when there are no other options. It works well for simple web surfing but more intensive things like games or video streaming tend to not work well.
