I want to use an old 500 gig ide in my SATA machine. Is there an adaptor that will work for that?

Either should work, but some adapters contain faulty firmware and are not compatible with CD/DVD/BluRay drives.
Here is a 2-way SATA-IDE adapter that appears to be compatible with everything. Unlike the Newegg product it lacks a cover, but covers often prevent adapters from being plugged into IDE motherboards to use a SATA drive with them:
