Trouble with internet

I've built my PC about four months ago and when i have it plugged in through an Ethernet cable it only gets one to five mbps download speed but when i use my brothers laptop(wireless) and test the internet speed with the same website I am getting 10-15mbps download speed. We are paying for 12mbps and how come my wired speed is much slower than the wireless speed?
Any help would be appreciated

could be many reasons, like a bad nic, cat5 wire, router, software running, o/s issues.

what kind of pc is having this issue?

I'm using a cat5e cable and im running windows 7, its my desktop having the issue.

the brand and model is fine. and is it yours, or did your ISP provide it?

Brand is Actiontec model: C1000A and my ISP provided it for me

call your ISP and have them troubleshoot it. they might be a firmware update available if they havent pushed it out yet.

Is there anything i can do to my computer that can solve this? I've had a router before that has done the same thing with the same computer, fast wireless and slow wired

if thats the case there's something wrong with your pc. what happens if you connect your laptop with a wire, what are you speeds then?

Okay, well i tested the ethernet with the laptop and the speed is 14mbps, so the problem is my computer

you can try and download the latest version of the network card driver, see if that helps.

if that doesn't work you can try this.
