Power Supply - XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive - LG GH24NSB0 DVD/CD Writer

I'm looking to build a PC for the first time. I have around $800 Canadian to spend, including taxes. I've put together a build (mostly based on threads from this forum), just looking for any advice on superior parts or compatibility issues. PCpartpicker says the graphics card wont fit into the case without removing drive bays, will that be an issue? From what I've seen I can pick up these parts for around $790 from newegg and ncix. I'd like to avoid shipping if possible.

I'm looking to play Skyrim, day z, rust type games, most likely hooked up to a 32" 720p hdtv.

What about using a samung monitor with max 1680x1050 resolution? I'd like to run games on the highest setting possible and not worry about upgrading my video card for a while.

Sorry, this would be a good build for the price except that it's done on the American site, which lists much cheaper prices. The hybrid drive would be nice but its $130 in Canada.

I could go over-budget for the i5 if it's really worth the extra $70. I've been reading that it's more important to put money into the video card than the processor, but if its worth it I wouldn't mind spending more.

That HDD is a 5400rpm unit, you will want a 7200rpm one. Go with Western Digital's 1TB Blue drive.

A few things:
For the motherboard, go with this ASRock Z87 PRO4. Right now you get $10 off with code: CEMCPFPH33 and it has a $45 rebate on it. So you can get it for just $84. ASUS boards are better quality than MSI in my opinion.

Next, I'd get this power supply over the Corsair: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151094
Seasonics are known for their reliability and delivering their true power rating. But the corsair will probably be fine.

Lastly, DO NOT get 1 stick of ram. Get two sticks in a kit. using 1 stick will slow your system down because it keeps you from using dual channel. Get this: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428
It is the same kit I have for just $2 more than the 1 stick in your build now.

Thanks a lot! Very helpful. One more question, I have an old dvd writer (samsung ts-h653), is there any reason why it wouldn't work with this build? I might as well use it if so, could save the 15 bucks. I'm probably only going to use it to install windows anyways.

The dvd drive should work. And there is NOTHING wrong with the build, all parts should work together. I would make sure the dvd drive works properly before hand if possible or would have to create a bootable USB drive.
