Hi guys,

I had a few questions since modems/ routers are beyond my field of knowledge. We decided to not rent a router from Time Warner but have no idea which one to buy. They have a recommended list found here

-Do I need to stick to this list?
-Am I ok going with a modem/wifi router combo?

We will be using the wireless connection to stream movies and surf the web. Let me know if there is any other pertinent info I can give!

Thanks!

1) You do need to stick to the list. If you don't stick to the list and you have problems don't expect any help from the Cable Company (even if you think it is in their line and not your modem).
2) If you do not already have a router, your cheapest bet would be to get a combo modem/router. As for recommendation I am not sure. I have the Motorola SB6183 modem with a separate router and it works really well. Getting the modem and router separate gives you more options but cost more. If you go with a separate modem and router, only the modem has to be on their list. You can use any router you want.

Just noticed your budget. You may have a problem getting something for $80.
