i recently upgraded my GPU to a r9 290x from a gtx 570. i have the latest beta driver (14.3) and for some reason i can't play any of my games on steam. i've tried Skyrim, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Batman Origins, Bioshock Infinite, Hawken, Metro Last Light, and Tomb Raider. they all have some sort of DirectX error or Driver error or just crash to desktop. Tomb Raider usually doesn't but the rest do. I also get some artifacting in Deus Ex. I know Batman Origins has a problem with DX11 and has to be run in DX9 for it to work, which it does, but i can't account for the rest of the games not working properly. i downgraded my drivers to 13.12 and it helped for the most part but then Battlefield 4 wouldn't work and i got some artifacting in it as well. I never had an issue with my gtx 570, so i'm worried it's my new (expensive) gpu.. is anyone having an issue like mine? could it be my hardware? should i invest in new hardware or return my gpu? any suggestions will be appreciated.

My Specs:
Windows 8.1 with DX11.2
Mobo: EVGA X58 SLI LE
CPU: i7 975 @ 4.1
RAM: 24gb (6x4gb) Corsair Vengeance Triple Channel 1600 c9
GPU: MSI r9 290x Gaming OC edition
PSU: Ultra X3 1000w

Hi Andy,

The cause can be a few things, so I would consider checking a few in this list.

1. That Prior to the new Ati card installed, all of the Nvidia drivers were un installed.
Sometimes this can cause a problem.

2. Keep an eye on the temps of the card with a temp monitor, and if you can post the results back after a few minuets of the card running with a game.
If the card is set to auto fan config then set it manually in speed to a higher rpm.

If the case you are using does not have a lot of space in side, and no extra cooling fans front, and back of the case. take the side off and see if you get the same results when playing a game.

Though the Gpu may be cool or with in a good temp, often the result of the on board memory can often produce Artifacts, due to also being too hot.

3. Test the system without any overclock, settings if you have applied any.
Such things as a Cpu over clock, Memory, or anything in relation to the Pci-e graphics slot of the motherboard. The card clocks themself, in relation to the set memory clock frequency. Back it off using something Like EVGA superclock, or Msi after burner desktop clocking or under clocking of the card, in relation to the memory frequency or speed of the card.

Post back after trying these.

i made sure that i uninstalled the nvidia drivers prior to installing my new amd card. As far as temp goes, in Afterburner it shows that i don't go above 77c while in game. I have a Cooler Master ATCS 840 full tower which has 7 fans installed with good airflow. i have an H80 cooler on my cpu. the only overclock i have is on my cpu which i reverted back to stock 3.33. my card came overclocked slightly so i will have to try putting it at stock speeds as well, but so far nothing has made a difference, unfortunately.
