I know nothing about hardware, but I hope to use my setup for graphics-intensive software development. I'd like to be able to hook it up to my 50-inch plasma TV, is the 2GB enough?

Here's the card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Size of the tv isn't the matter. Resolution is more important. You can have a 200 inch tv and the card wont care. It just cares about the resolution it needs to output. 2GB is enough for most standard res around 1920x1080 or maybe 1440p

Well, I intend for an enjoyable resolution on the TV. Will 1920x1080 look silly on 50-inch?
