I have an e4300 Intel core2duo.

I have a mid-tower case, dvd drive, hard drive.

I need a PSU, Mobo, Graphics Card, and Heat Sink

I know this chip can be overclocked, and would like that ability.

I play Starcarft II, SimCity, Civilization V, Empire: Total War, Bioshock Infinite, Tombraider.

I have a monitor at 720p so high resolution isn't a big issue.

My budget is as low as possible. Basically, it would be nice to know the cheapest components I can buy that will last for a year or two and wouldn't need to be upgraded. I can then turn this into a media center or DVR when I have the money for a real build.

Now, clearly if I can afford a graphics card that needs a larger PSU (550 watts or higher), then I woudl prefer a PSU that I can reuse. If I do turn any machine I build with this into an HTPC then I'll put a cheaper PSU in. The same goes for the graphics card.

I was thinking that this combination might be good:

ASRock G41C-GS LGA 775 Intel G41 + ICH7 Micro ATX

Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 X2

CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE (ON SALE!)

And possibly a Radeon 6670 that I found on ebay for $40, but so far the total (w/o graphics) is about $140 for the new. I might start looking into local computer shops and see if they have anything they'd give me for cheap. I really just need a gaming machine in the short-term. If I could find a cheap, reliable Mobo and RAM, I'd be fine purchasing PSU, Graphics, and Heatsink new.

Ram speed doesn't effect gaming performance really, anything over 1333 is fine. but the processor will factor in to the performance of the card. Non of the games that you play are really that hard on systems. With a 750 ti you would probably see highs of 45-60+ fps with lows of 25-30 just because of the age of your processor. Your monitor is also 720p so when I tested it on an older system of mine I played a few games like bf3 and a few mmorpgs and I got around that 45-60 mark at mid to high settings. but if you are used to gaming at 20-30 fps you will notice that even the low point of your fps will still be smoother than what you are used to

If you can find this motherboard on sale anywhere it is a lot more reliable than that asrock http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3743#ov I had the motherboard die on my music computer so I bought that board and swapped it out. it still is running strong 3 years later. I also managed to overclock my processor to 3ghz while running completely stable with the board. if you have extra money you could almost get something like a gtx 750 ti which requires no pci-e power connector. you can see the video here of what it can do even for a computer that only costs $300 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_Pnte_niJE

I actually have another system with an athlon II that I think adding the 750ti to would be better rather than buying all this stuff for the e4300, especially after watching that video because the athlon systen is a store bought gateway, hut it is from 2010 with ddr2 ram, in that video all the components were new with ddr3 1600mhz ram, I wonder if that guy took that into account, because faster ram and better cpu architecture make a huge difference. Im sure there are people who have uograded such older machines because they are stuck wigh them, I wonder what their experiences are.
