Im having heat issues and I want to test if its from my heatsink, the latch on my current heatsink makes a weird click when I latch it down and it feels like it loses pressure... causing my heat problems.. at MINIMUM, if using this brand new athlon heatsink isnt possible... Id like the take the fan off of it and remove the latch, do the same to my current heatsink and swap the latches.... thoughts on this????

More about : put amd athlon stock heatsink amd apu

AMD have made Athlon branded processors for more than a decade and in several different sockets so you are going to have to tell us which athlon that heatsink is from

Then check the plastic brackets the heatsink clips down on . I have seen those break

clips are fine.. its the bracket u latch down that clicks.. i switched it with the athlons tho.. and its a FM2 port Athlon x2 .. not sure EXACTLY which one I sold the processor when I upgraded to my A8, and kept the heatsink from the Athlon.. but the heatsink and fan are the exact same size, but the heatsink is about 2/3 or even half the height as the A8's... so Im no longer sure if this would be a good idea lol.. BUT I DID take the fan off the athlons heatsink since its brand new and put it on my heatsink.. runs same RPM's and is exact same size

The heat sink will definitely not be as good as the stock one that came with the A8 but if it works it works. Compatibility wise, AMD hasn't really changed their clip and latch system since the Original Athlon 64, so you could technically use an original Athlon 64 cooler lol, or literally any cooler from any other AMD desktop socket since then. But even the original Athlon 64 latch system was just a scaled up version of the clip and latch systems that had been available for years before it. Why Intel has changed their pin clip systems so many times is beyond me to be honest. I always thought it was a stupid finicky system to begin with though.

The stock heatsinks from AMD, in general, are horrible. You are better off getting an aftermarket one like a hyper TX3.
