Is it possible?
I've got:
- Asus P5QL-E mobo.
- 500 gb sata hdd with Win7 os ( Plex Server and Jdownloader + LogMeIn for remote control with pc and tablet)
- 1000 gb sata hdd with my old backup and storage stuff.

I want to keep that setup and add a raid 5 with my new hdd.
I bought 3x 3tb wd red hdd but I can't create a Raid 5 software on win7 and if I try to create it from Bios it sees only 750gb each hdd..
What can I do?
Maybe switching Os could be a solution?

Thank you.

From what I've read, you can't do raid 5 in win 7 due to some kind of licensing issue.

To see more than 750gb, try updating your raid drivers. The last update for your drivers is from 2009. If that doesn't work, you may be out of luck since your motherboard is kind of old.

This is correct. older controllers/drivers may not recognize 3TB drives with 4k sectors, it will see it as 512B/1K sectors hence 750GB.

Is there a free solution for my setup?
What about software raid5? Maybe with linux or another OS? I need something that support plex server and jdownloader.

If your motherboard doesn't have onboard raid, then you can buy an add in raid controller. I've never used plex server or jdownloader, but I don't think that will matter as long as the OS can work with the raid controller.

Is that the best and the cheapest solution?
Isn't linux software raid 5 reliable?

NOTE: I haven't extensively used linux, especially in a raid environment.

Your motherboard is still an issue so even if you use linux, you will need to get an add in raid card that can read the full capacity of the drives you are using. The raid card will need linux drivers. Of course, you will also need versions of your plex server and jdownloader for linux or find alternative software.
