As a first time builder I checked builds using the same case NZXT H440 to try figure out how case air flow works and which fans I should purchase.

I came across this build https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/b/Ocn can someone elaborate how the airflow works in that one, if I could use similar setup considering I am using Noctua air cooling compared to his CPU water cooler?

Thanks !

PS: here is my build if you need to check compatibility: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/

In there, I see one in the back, a Corsair cooler on the top blowing air out. After looking it up, I see three in the front. You ideally want those three blowing in, your air cooler blowing out the back, and a fan blowing out. The ones on the top should blow outwards, as heat rises. As for what kind of fans, you want to look at airflow, measured in CFM (cubic feet per minute) and dB, decibels. For a 120mm fan, you want around 80 CFM. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... This is a good fan, it's not too loud, and has good airflow.

Fantastic clear explanation !

Two 120mm fan on top or 2x140 mm not quite sure since I wont have water cooling radiator up there, or is it even three with spare space?

If I purchase top fans would this mean I have the replace the back stock fan with similar make or can I still use stock?

Thanks !

You can mix and match fans so you won't need to change the stock, but a lot of stock fans aren't too powerful. I do believe the top supports 3 120mm fans, so that would work.

What would you recommend start with two top fans and go from there, should they be 120mm or 140mm ?

Cheers !
