HDD Open Delay

I have 3 HDD's.
They are from WD and they pretty old. (3 years)

My first HDD has the system and the other 2 has general files.
When I open one of them in the explorer it takes like 10 seconds to run and then I can access the files.
After this little delay the HDD runs fine but it annoys me that I need to wait everytime I want to use the files.

It happens everytime with both of the HDD's.

(Windows 7 @ 64bit)

Solution
It sounds like your Hard Drive is being put to sleep, then having to wake up when you try to access it.
There is nothing really harmful about this and it does end up you some energy when the drives are not in use.

It is fairly easy to disable this behaviour and force the drives to stay awake.
In the Control Panel go to Power Options => Edit Plan Settings => Hard disk => Turn off hard disk after => lower it until it reads 'Never' (just below 1 Minute).
