Hello

I have just bought some new ram to upgrade my 4gb to 8gbs of ram.

When I turn on the laptop it goes onto a screen which says 'startup using windows repair'. When I press I press on it it just goes and restarts and goes back to the same screen???

The original ram was two cards, 2gb at 1066mhz DDR3.
The new ram is two cards 4gb. the same but it's 1333mhz
Does that make a difference..?

Thanks for the help.

Hello.

Do you have memtest burned to dvd, do this first download from http://www.memtest.org/

Take your OLD Ram and install it ONLY into laptop. Remove the hard drive throughout this entire process.

Boot laptop with just the old ram now into memtest and do a full test. Does it pass? Yes? Okay, now install ONLY new ram.
Boot laptop with new ram and test. Does it Fail? Yes, ram is bad. Pass? Yes? If Yes new ram is good. Then install New ram with old ram.

Boot laptop now with both sticks, Does it fail? Yes (then new ram is incompatible with old ram but fine seperate).

If the new ram runs fine only and passes memtest. But fails with old ram, it doesn't like stepping down speed.
