Sorry, my english is bad.

Hey! I have an AMD A8 3870k running at 3,0 GHz and i want to overclocked it to 3,6 GHz. This is my first OC, so, how i OC my APU? And my Cooler Master Vortex Plus will be mantain my APU cool?

Solution

The cooler should be fine for a bit of overclocking.

First thing- you can't really decide the speed you want to overclock to- it all depends on how tolerant the particular cpu you've got is.

To try and overclock the cpu, the easiest way is to go into the bios (I'd need to know what motherboard you have to give you more details). As this is a 'k' type unlocked processor you can just change the CPU multiplier (there will be an option in there somewhere) to boost the speed.

A word of warning- don't up it too much...

A word of warning- don't up it too much at first. Adjust the multiplier up by 1, save the changes and boot the machine up and try out a game or something to make sure its all ok. Also keep an eye on cpu temps. If it's ok, add another 1 onto the multiplier and test again, keep doing that and see how far you can push it. Once you reach the speed where it starts to cause problems (e.g. blue screen when loading windows), that's your limit so go back and turn it down to the last setting that worked without problems. 3.6 ghz sounds like a reasonable target for that cpu, but you may find it will only hit 3.4 or it might push as far as 3.9 you wont know until you test it.

You can do other changes to get even more out of it but if you want the machine to be reliable I'd say its safest just adjusting the multiplier and leaving voltages and so on alone.

Also if you make changes that prevent the machine from booting, you will need to clear the cmos memory (there should be a button or jumper on the motherboard to do this). This will remove all your changes and set everything back to default.

I have an Asus F1A75 M LE Motherboard. Can you help me with overclocking using BIOS?

Hi, I've had a quick look- seams like a nice easy bios to work with (Asus are usually pretty good). If you haven't got a copy they're user manual is pretty helpful:

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/F1A75M_LE/HelpDesk_Manual/

Based on a quick read of that- you need to hit 'Delete' key on start up to access the bios.

The overclock settings are found under the 'AI Tweaker' Menu. To overclock the processor, change the "Ai Overclock Tuner" to 'Manual'. This will give you access to all the settings. Then go to the 'APU Multiplier' option and change the value. Exit the bios with the 'save changes' option- then reboot. As I mentioned before I'd do it in stages a bit at a time, and test the machine after each change to make sure everything is working well.

What value i can put?

Not sure about what value to use in the multiplier... Basically I'd add 1 onto whatever it is currently set to. From memory i'm guessing the settings should be a 30 x multiplier with a 100 mHz bclk (giving you you 3000 mHz speed).

Upping it to 31 will boost speed to 3100, keep adding on 1 and testing.
