I was given a computer recently and want to strip it down and make it my own. I formated the hard drive and did a fresh install of windows 7. The hardware of the set up is an Intel I7-2600 3.4 ghz, 16 gb ram, intel dh67cl motherboard, nvidia quadro 600 graphics card. Software provided is windows 7 install disk and Intel express installer dvd. What I need help with is knowing what I am required to install to get the computer running optimally and what I can get rid of? Also how good is the hardware?

The hardware should be decent, and it's free, so... yeah. The only thing I would check would be the age of that HDD, if more than 5-6 years old I would probably look into replacing it before I get to install too many things.
Software-wise, make sure you have the drivers associated with that motherboard (something often overlooked, people are too fixated on having the latest graphics drivers and forget about the motherboard), also the drivers for the add-on hardware. A good A/V and you should be good to go.
