Without being more specific (min/max budget, which games, current PSU and willingness to upgrade it if necessary, preference for AMD or Nvidia, etc.), it is pretty difficult to make an informed recommendation.

If you want everything on Ultra, your best bets would be R9-290(X) or something from the 780 range on the Nvidia side.

yup, very good post, and another thing i would add is even with that beastly of a GPU some games will not even give you a steady 60fps at 1080p on maximum settings...most will but not all of them, i was playing crysis 3 yesterday at very high settings (wich is the hihgest possible for this game) and at some points in the game i was getting like 34fps and that is with a fully overclocked GTX 780...as for metro LL maximum settings give me average around 50fps (mostly around 60 most of the time tho)

yeah almost impossible to recommend without knowing your PC spec and your Budget. I do find the Toms Graphics cards guides very helpful, suggests the best cards for all types of budget, think its just been updated for April and would recommend you give it a read:
