So i finally got my new gpu. I haven't tried any demanding games yet but i did try Furmark. It ran for about a second after which the pc just shut down. I had to switch the power off and back on from the power supply before i was able to turn the pc on. I think that the psu just can't take the current.

PSU: Modecom MC620 Carbon

GPU: Asus R9 280x Directcu II top

Yep I would not trust that PSU with $300 GPU! At least it did shut down on overload protection not blow up. It has the ratings of a 500watt PSU.

yep, doesnt even list current ratings on the site. you will never hit the same gpu load as you do in furmark in gaming, but your psu still needs to be able to take that

Games seem to work fine but it's like having a bomb inside my case. I'm getting a new better one asap. Btw the 12V rail has a max current rating of 20A. That's 240W. The card draws about 300W max.

That is a very poor power supply , replace it before it takes out some of your other components.

Look for SEASONIC , XFX , ANTEC , Corsair TX , AX , or HX power supplies.
