I recently received approval from my employer to build a new rig have ruffly 2.5k to spend.

I am leaning towards the 2011 socket since I do a lot of vs compiles/blender/unity3d/mobile emulators etc. I also run a lot of ETL software for file processing,

I believe I could definitely use the six cores, I also like the idea of going to 64gb ram eventually and using RAM DISK for 75% of it. I currently have a 1440p 27" monitor and a 1080p monitor but will probably graduate to 1600p within the next 3 years. I won't be upgrading for 5 years and want to future proof as much as possible. I am itching to buy today but given its a 5 year upgrade I am willing to wait until June for haswell-e, and the maxwell cards. But from what I have read when they initial launch there might be headaches and expense and the DDR4 ram really be much better the quad channel ram the Ivy-e bridge supports.

I found this PC on Ebay, the seller built it for himself but decided not to keep it:

This is about $450 under what I could build it for on Newegg.
I am going to guess it didn't provide the sort of bang for the buck the seller was expecting.
From seller:
"No refurbished products. I built this computer for myself but decided it I don't want it anymore. I used it for a few days and decided to list it for sale. I'm taking a loss on this computer.

The chip needed 1.37v for 4.8 ghz and temps were at 49 after 2 hours. I was surprised it was that good. The daily 4.4ghz is stable 24/7 and temps are at 40 according to ROG OC Panel.

I have tried overclocking the graphics but I don't remember what it maxed out at. All I know is that this system scores over 15000points in 3dmark11. performance mode and over 6000pts in xtreme mode."

Can someone tell me if this is a good approach and if those scores are in line with what I should expect? Being he is a part selling I am afraid of a bunch of parts from a garbage bin.

If I were to build it my self I probably would grab the saber-tooth.
I have the RAMPAGE III EXTREME Edition currently and while it looks cool and has had my 930 running at 3.9ghz stable for years; I definitely didn't mess with 90% of the features. (But maybe the rampage is the reason my OC is good, kind of always assumed it was the chip)

Another option I would consider is 2 evga 780 reference in SLI versus the 780 ti (thoughts?). If I went this route would it pay to wait on the 6gb version? I would be open to 3 way 780s if I ever went 1600p which makes me think the 3gb could really limit things.

Anyone have the Cosair 350D and could comment on the case or noise levels? I really wanted a Win D-FRAME I know the cost is crazy but I think its so rad. They seem impossible to find.

Thanks for any advice and feedback!

honestly, i wouldnt trust the seller whatsoever with that brief of a description. also you could save a lot of money and only buy 1 780ti and it will still max pretty much any game at 1440p
3 way sli is just not smart at all, stick to maximum of 2 way sli.

if you really want the gaming performance, go for the titan black if you are worried about gpu memory (it basically IS the 6gb 780ti)
