First off sorry of this is the wrong place to post this but I couldn't find a topic that I thought this question would fit well in. I have been trying to play blu ray files on my computer but I am only getting sound, not any video. I do not have a blu ray drive on my computer but I was thinking I could still play blu ray files with the correct program/codex. I have tried VLC with the needed files for blu ray and AnyMP4 Blu-Ray player and neither will give me any video just sound. Am I unable to play blu ray files without having a blu ray drive or am I doing something wrong, thanks!

Solution
I read your post incorrectly. My apologies.

If you have Blu Ray files on your PC, VLC should run it. I've done it before. The problem is, I bet I can guess how you've obtained these files. By forum rules, I can't help or support piracy. But, what I can say is, make sure that the file format is one that VLC supports (mkv,mp4,avi etc) and try updating VLC to latest version.

Thanks for the response, I was under the impression if I wasn't actually playing a disc and I was just playing a file that was already on the computer that I could still play the files since it wasn't inside a drive or running off of a disc, thanks for the response!

Thanks Barto, I had a feeling you might have misread my post, probably because of the confusing way I worded it hah, I will try updating VLC and keep messing around, atleast now I know it is possible to play them! And yes the files are mp4 which I think VLC plays, thanks!!

what? is was all solved with new download of vlc about 1/2 dozen posts ago. we're just discussing the merits of handbrake vs makemkv
