I was firstly going to go for the Asus P8H61-MX (£43.29) for my gaming pc build that will have a i3-4130 processor (3.4GHz) and a gigabyte gtx 650 graphics card but after looking at some more motherboards I saw the MSI B85-G41(£54.98) and this is just over £10 more but has 4 RAM slots whereas the other has 2 RAM slots. I am not sure which one to go for and if both are compatible with the cpu and gpu I am getting. I was thinking that 4 RAM slots would be better because I may want to upgrade later on since I will be getting a 4gb ram first then a 8gb.

Hi onur - The i3-4130 only works in Intel socket 1150 motherboards. The MSI B85-G41 would work fine with it and any GPU you want to use. The Asus board would NOT work for that cpu - it's designed for older cpus.

The MSI board will accept your i3-4130, but the Asus board has the wrong socket. You will want to look for boards with 1150 sockets, not 1155.

Thanks for the help! I searched for another motherboard and found the msi b85-g43 and it is £5 cheaper. Would it be better to get this one because it doesn't look like there is a difference between the g41 and g43?

My info says that the MSI B85-G41 is an ATX size board. The MSI B85-G43 is a micro-ATX size board. Edit: Correction: The MSI B85M-G43 is micro-ATX. The MSI B85-G43 is ATX.

So it depends on your computer case. Larger cases usually accept ATX and mATX size boards. Smaller cases often just fit mATX and will not fit full sized ATX motherboards. You have to decide on a computer case and make sure that the motherboard you buy will fit into the case. The computer case specs will list motherboard form factor compatibility (e.g. ATX, mATX).

I am going with the CiT Vantage midi gaming case. Can you confirm if it fits both atx and micro atx boards. I think it will be better if I got a micro atx board for this case.

Sorry, earlier I was looking at the MSI B85M-G43 which is the micro-ATX version of the B85-G43. Anyway, either version of the G43 board would be great especially if its cheaper than the G41. So decide if you want the MSI B85M-G43 (microATX) or the MSI B85-G43 (ATX). Generally I choose ATX over mATX when the computer case allows it. The board layout is usually better and things are more spread out and easier to reach with my long chubby fingers : )
