I recently bought an msi r9 280x and the fps seams a little low on some games.
For starters, my setup:
Fx8350 oc 4.4ghz. Liquid cooled
Ram- 8gb 1866mhz ddr3
Gpu- obv.
1tb 7200rpm hdd.

So on hitman my frames during benchmark average at like 51-53 on ultra. And bf 4 I get like 70 on test range, but in game it's more like 59. So before I had a sapphire 270x, and it got identical results in the benchmark, and just slightly less in bf4. Granted less drops. Still thought it would be better? And for reference my 270x got 60 on test range. Am I being CPU bottlenecked? Should I oc more? Or should I down clock my ram? Thanks guys

Well your results isn't low at all, it's actually pretty much around what reviewers get out of the R9 280X.
I also had a 7970Ghz (the 280X is a rebrand of this card is you didn't know) and it had around the same performance in BF4 & Hitman, my card was even much slower in Hitman.

So i don't know what kind of alien technology your 270X was made of, but the results on the 280X are pretty standard. ;)

It's not CPU bottleneck, from a old i5 to a i7-4960X you're only going to see a couple of extra fps in most games.

Thanks. Is that performance on my 270x really that good???

i actually think it's not that strange to only get a 10fps increase, especially if you had the Sapphire 270X TOXIC.

I don't believe the top dog of the AMD FX-8xxx gets anywere close to bottlenecking, and your ram should be fine too.

Looking at this benchmark the 280X gets a ~10fps over the 270X

came from this review of the 270X: http://www.legitreviews.com/amd-radeon-r9-270x-sapphire-toxic-r9-270x-review_125979/3

Thanks man! it actually wasn't a toxic, but still ran pretty well for what it is I guess.
I actually got some results though, so my ram was downclocked to 1400 (Because that's how it comes) So I bumped it up to the sticker and saw a decent increase in fps. (New average is now about 80 or so depending.
Then I lowered a few graphics settings that literally have NO affect on what you see but seriously tax the system and now I get over 100 a times. Of course my monitor is 60mhz, so nothing over 60 is seen, but as long as I don't ever go below I'm happy. And I don't.
