Originally, my iMac only took around 30 seconds to boot, but now, the computer takes over 2 minutes and 30 seconds. I have disabled a bunch of software that will slow down my login speed, but that does not affect the boot up... So I tried unplugging all external devices that are not needed, and I enabled auto login, but sadly there is still no difference :(

Here are the 5 things I would do.

1. Verify Disk using Disk Utility, if any issues found, run Repair Disk from Disk Utility. If unable to repair disk, jump right to #5.
2. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility (I run this 2 to 3 times)
3. Perform PRAM reset
4. Perform SMC reset
5. Test hard drive, I believe you can use bootable CD called Seagate Tools for DOS as it is OS independent. Any failure means you probably need a new hard drive. I have replaced several hard drives on iMac's and while challenging, anyone can do it with the right tools and guides. I have found a failed hard drive comes back to life with a format and reload of OS but honestly, for the prices now you can get a new one with more room for cheap so why not just replace.

No luck. Everything checked out fine. Does that mean that my iMac is running in top condition, but it is generally slow at booting up?

Thank you so much! My computer checked out of the extended test as fully successful, and now, my boot speed is still slow, but it is now faster. It now boots up in 1 minute and 30 seconds! :)
