so, as the title says, the ship has set sailed for xp finally. i'm getting ahead of the ball game and switched to fedora core 20. everything is going smooth so far. support stops soon for xp, so i decided to switch to fedora core 20. anyone one else doing this? i find linux a lot more hassle free then xp. drivers are already installed, what more could you ask for. comments welcomed.

ps: anyone running dual cpu can safely upgrade to fedora core 20 as it supports all threads. thank god for this.

you mean a new os is better then a 13 years old OS, you don't say. Hopefully you donate to the cause.

that's not the point. xp is better then windows vista, 7, 8 and 8.1 put together. so many problems with the new os's, so i really don't know what your trying to say. xp is better then fedora core 20. i'm not buying xp professional just to support my dual cpu, that's why i upgraded. and yes it's a upgrade because it's newer, that's all, maybe i should have stated that, and i'll stand corrected on this, cause i wasn't sure if i was finished posting. and yes i'm trying to donate to the cause by buying a linux t shirt.

ps, by the way, i find windows xp better then linux 20. i only upgraded because home edition doesn't support dual cpu's. as i already stated. i'm not shelling out a pretty penny for professional just to support four threads on my dual cpu system.

edit: also, i never said fedora core 20 was better then xp. just to let you know.

The only reason not to upgrade from xp is if you computer already struggle with xp ( ex pentium 4 with 1/2 gb ram) because the performance will be worse with modern os (vista and above)

Windows 7 is stable and does the job as well as xp.

thanks skittles. LOL. it really will run like that. i switched over to linux cause there's nothing really that appeals or does the job anymore like how i want it to.

it does the job as well as xp? i don't think so... that's just a hoax. windows 7 is bullshit.

I am a Linux user but I have to repair windows systems. I have to disagree that XP is better than 7 at least from that perspective. XP is a nightmare to fix, 7 is much better at self repair and diagnostics and both systems run the same software for the most part.

Of course fixing Linux systems is even easier once you get over the fear of the command line. And thank goodness Linux gives us the tools we need to fix people's windows systems.

I only remember 3 things about Windows XP:

  • Eye bleeding colours. This was followed up by hideous faux glass in Vista, so Microsoft have been going out of their way to make ugly UIs for years.
  • Having to install drivers for a wired Ethernet controller. I needed XP for an old game and it took me a while to realise why I had no network connections after being used to OSs with these out of the box for many years.
  • The installer asks for my name twice, but won't let me use the same one both times.
