so lets begin with the basics. i have a amd fx 8350 4 ghz with a CM evo 212 for cooling and a ASUS m5a97 r2.0, cpu never going above 35c under 100% load. i wanted to overclock to 4.5 ghz. so i read a few forums, etc. started with a miny overclock to 4.2 ghz with stock 1.380v for cpu manual, i have the latest bios just to mention. i loaded optimized defaults, letft everything default and changed the cpu ratio so its 4.2ghz, it loaded up my OS, ran prime 95 for about 5minutes then a core failed. dropping from 100% to 85-95% with a 1.380v and everything else default, are they're any changes i can make so i dont fail a core? and have a successfull overclock? ( i even tried with a 1.42v manual voltage for the cpu, core still fails and goes around 7-70%. for my motherboard my bios version is the latest of 2301. please HELP, ask questions if necessary. (no worrying about temperatures here.) and after a bit of stress testing about 20 minutes, another core fails and thats the max core amounts it will go.

Best things that worked for me where to enable LLC, hpc mode and set ram to auto as well a fsb to auto. For some reason that motherboard really likes ram and fsb on auto. I'm using the m5a97 r2.0, hyper 212 evo and a fx 6300. Managed to get mine up to 4.4ghz.
