I’m having an issue with not getting a signal to my monitors when starting my computer. I was thinking it was an issue with my graphics card. So I pulled my graphics card out and replace it with an old one - also checked the cable for any damage. The computer then had signal to the monitors. So now I’m thinking great, it’s just my graphic card. So then I started closing my computer up and connected my large side fan to the fan controller and once again I didn’t have signal to the monitors. I’m starting to think it’s a power supply issue. What do you think?

Here is my computer configuration:

  • Intel i7 4930k
Asrock x79 extreme 6 mother board
    X4 4gb memory
    x1 ssd
    x3 7200rpm hd’s
    corsair 750watt powersupply

KevinAr18,

Yes. The old video card worked after replacing my current video card. With that old card in the case, I connected the large fan and booted up the computer again and got no signal.

For the last hour I've reseated everything - running the cables again, and put the new graphic card back in. The same problem occurred. I was not getting any signal to the monitors. I also tested the voltage with a multimeter to see if it was getting the correct power to the gpu all the pins were reading the correct voltage. So now, I am back to thinking it's the graphics card. It's still covered by warranty so I am going to send it in have them take a look at it. If you think it's something else let me know. Thanks!

It has been a while since I posted last. I ended up sending my graphics card in and just received the new one today. Hoping for success I put the new card in my machine. It took awhile for the monitor to get signal but eventually both monitors had signal. So I restarted the machine again and this time, no signal. So I shut the computer down and unplugged one of my hard drive's under the impression that it was not getting enough power. Sure enough both monitors had signal when I started the machine. So there is definitely a power issue of some sort. Could it be the power supply or motherboard? What do you guys think.

Kevin,

I can still boot into the machine remotely even when the monitors are not getting signal. The interesting thing is... Last night I tried clearing the CMOS. After clearing the CMOS the machine booted back up. I made some adjustments to the UEFI for my RAID volume, saved out the settings and loaded into Windows. I restarted the machine a few times to see if I would loose signal and the computer rebooted without any problems. However, when I tried shutting down and booting up again the computer I ran into the same problem with the monitors loosing signal. At that point I was thinking maybe the CMOS battery is bad. So I took it out and tested it with a multi meter it read, "3 volts"

So here is what it was. I feel very dumb after find out the problem... But it was a good lesson to be learned. Turns out that I had a bad dim module. I went through each dim testing them one by one in a slot until I found the culprit causing the issue. So there yah go. Always try the simple trouble shooting before digging deeper. Thanks for all of the Help!
