When I'm listening to music through headphones, the system sounds still come through speakers. The Realtek manager is set to mute the rear ports when a front headphone is plugged in, but it's clearly not doing it unless I'm missing something

Solution
open your start menu, type in, "manage audio devices", select your headphones and set them as the default device. It should stop coming out of the laptop speakers, but switch back when unplugged...you might have to fiddle in this are a bit to get it working right, i know i had to to get my HP laptop to do it as it should.

It auto defaults to them when they're plugged in according to the playback devices menu, but system sounds still route through my TV. It's so stupid. Windows 7, XP and Vista never had this issue. I don't even remember 98 and 95 doing this. Unless it's a problem with Realtek's code. Times like this make me want to go Mac just like that (I still will, just not now, Windows has been rubbing me the wrong way for time)
