Hey guys,

I recently purchased a Nepton 280L to cool my I5 3570k. I have an ASRock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard.

The Nepton 280L comes with two Cooler Master 140mm fan's (I think these are 140mm JetFlo's but I'm not 100% sure). It also comes with a 'Y' adaptor to plug both these fans into a single plug.

I currently have the cable out of the cooling block going into the 'CPU FAN1 slot' (the blue circle in the below picture).

If I plug these fans into the Y adaptor, then into either the top 'PWM' jack or 'CPU FAN2' slots (the red circle in the picture below) these fans do not spin.

If I plug this Y adaptor into any of the CHA_FAN slots anywhere on the board, they're fine. I can also take one of my case fans (the stock fans on the Corsair Air 540) and plug them into either of these slots and they operate fine.

Does anyone know why this is?

Please see the following picture for a clearer idea of where I'm trying to connect these;

I currently have them running on a CHA_FAN slot, but this isn't ideal for two reasons;

1) The cable has to stretch across my motherboard. It's ugly. Not the end of the world, but I'm picky.
2) The fans blow very hard and are very noisy. They don't seem to fluctuate dependant on load (though, when the machine is first turned on, within the first 15 minutes, I get some pulsing from them where they seem to slow down for a second and then speed back up again. At the noise level they're at, this is really annoying, though settles down and goes away after 15 minutes or so). I suspect getting them to run off the PWM or CPU_FAN slots will alleviate this.

To note; I have not tried these fans without the Y adaptor.

Many thanks!

You had created a duplicate thread; that is the one I removed. There was no problem with the content, just that it was a duplicate. Carry on!

The manual for the Nepton 280l is terrible. It shows you graphically how to mount and that's it - there's no text included, nor does it state WHICH plugs you are to use (just has an image of the 3 pin plug).

I haven't tried that - I'll give it a shot as soon as I can.

On a side note, I received a notification this thread had been removed due to non compliance with code of conduct, but I can see it's still here. The only problem I could see was a link to the image, rather than embedding it. I've changed that now however. Hopefully we'll stay!

Okay, I don't know why I didn't click onto this to begin with!

That socket highlighted in the red circle is a PWR fan, not PWM. It's also a 3 pin header. Oops!

I found my board has a single 4 pin PWM slot near the bottom of the board. I've chucked both fans onto a Y adaptor on this header and adjusted my BIOS to have this fan set to auto rather than FULL ON (which is the default, strangely). This now hums along nice and quietly!

Thanks for your assistance.
