I'm getting all my parts from Newegg tomorrow, including a new SSD that I'm going to put my current Windows 7 license on. What I want to do, ideally, is keep all my media files from my current hard drive on it and put it in my new system as a slave drive. I'd like to get rid of everything else such as games, Windows 7, ect leaving my with a spacious hard drive for the future. What's my best plan of action? I did try partitioning some space, but disk management said I couldn't free up any extra space.

Also, going to work for a few hours after posting this. Will respond after if any info is needed.

nice. I think PCs are so powerful and cheap now, really the only need for the average user for such power is gaming. Otherwise video editing. Mine runs great for everything I need it for... except gaming. Kinda sucks.. but couldn't dish out the extra 150 for a half-decent video and slightly better CPU.

did you find a solution, anyway? Why not just delete all old folders but your Home folder, then defrag?

How much media do you have? If it's something relatively small like 8 or 10 gigs, you can use your phone, or buy a 16gb usb drive for 20 bucks and transfer that way. or just transfer to ssd, then format backup drive. next transfer back over via windows. if you have a ridiculous amount of media you could just CTRL+A, then CTRL+click folders you want.. to uncheck them. Then hit DEL! Assuming you're past all this by now though.
What specs for new system? Curious- just update myself w budget build.
