Looking to drop some serious moolah on a new PC soon...but there are so many motherboard choices! Which do you all think it the best for an almost entirely gaming based PC in a high end computer? ASUS? MSI?

Build will feature a GTX 780 ti Classified and an i7 4770K CPU, if that helps for compatibility.

Please advise, over!

Solution
Buy an ASUS mobo.

These two are as high as it gets.

Somebody recommended the MSI motherboards, which have a cost of about...half the high end ASUS ones have. What's the difference that I'll get for the extra moolah? I don't mind spending money, but I abhor wasting it.

Is that difference really worthy the price difference?

Opinion.

Given that most motherboards are long out of date (IE, USB 2.0 vs 3.0) before they break, whether or not you want to spend double for a longer lifespan depends on how much money you have to build a PC.

If that price premium is only do make sure it doesn't just keel over and die one day, I'll take my chances and save the cash. If performance-wise I can't see any difference...I'd need a better reason to spend double the money.

I agree with you.
But it's also worth mentioning that the more expensive ASUS boards tend to OC better, as high capacity parts were tested and hand picked.

He said "Looking to drop some serious moolah on a new PC" so what do you think...

I think it's still stupid to overspend, and "serious moolah" means very different things to different people.

Saving money on a MB is penny-wise, pound foolish. The one component I refuse to compromise on is the motherboard. It's the heart of your system and its failure means starting over again. I've gone through several brands of MB in the last few years and while none are perfect, the most consistent have been the ASUS Extremes. My latest build is on a Rampage IV Extreme and so far, it's been an outstanding performer (7 months and running.) My previous build (now my back up/server, 3 years and counting) is centered on a Rampage III Extreme. If I needed to save money I'd shave it off other expenses like RAM and CPU.

The necessary disclaimer is that for my systems I don't shave the cost off any of the components, but if I had to, it wouldn't be the MB. RAM and CPU are great targets for saving cash since if you're not competing in speed competitions, you'll never get near the performance capacities of those components. Save the $200 somewhere else.

I don't know why people nowadays just don't do what the CB/Ham radio people did for mods and everything with these Motherboards. I would get the cheap board then swap out the parts with more durable parts. Capacitors and resistors are very cheap. All everyone needs to do is get experienced with soldering these small components on the board. It's only time and labor to have a great product or maybe someone will create something spectacular with a board witch will change the design of them completely. As with all electronics you can only squeeze so much through the copper layouts witch will start to clog the information up sooner or later.
