Industrial Blower Fan - Why not???

Solution

That's a fallacious comparison. Just like there's always a risk of dying, there's always a risk of a PC breaking, whether it's bare on a desk or in a case. Using the case instead of a makeshift blower enclosure is like wearing a seatbelt, driving on the correct side of the road, putting out a cigarette before you go to sleep, or not pointing a gun at your face.
It significantly decreases the risk of the worst case scenario happening.

Aside from not being able to enjoy your games because of the noisome mini hurricane next to your PC?

1. You'll short the motherboard if it's on a conductive surface.
2. Your cooling might actually be worse, since a plexiglass...

1) Extremely loud
2) Bad aesthetics
3) Waste of space
4) Expensive

It would bring in more airflow, yes. You would still need a good exhaust fan. I used to have a desk fan blowing into the side of my computer when my normal 80mm fan broke and it worked fine. Not a huge difference in temps.

There is absouletly no reason why you should use this....You want to push the hot air out one way not circulate it around and around inside. What are your computer specs? If you have an average browsing PC you will not even need this.

+ I really think this is a troll...

i am buiilding my pc with a 4670k and 280x. I will be overclocking so i need to run cool. Do I even need a case? Why can't I just have the mobo laying on the desk with this fan blowing at the hardware.

edit: I will also be using headphones so noise is not an issue

ok, so what if I got like a HEPA filter from home depot, and some pieces of plexiglass and taped together a box with the blower fan, since its high velocity it would out blow stock pc fans right?

I have the same setup you want to get (the 4670K and 280X) and i have no heat issues using a case and a liquid cpu cooler. I am overclocked to 4.2 ghz and in game my temps have never been over 50c*even crysis 3 max settings). As for the air cooled 280X it never gets over 72c and that over clocked to 1150mhz. Just buy a cheap case like the nzxt 210 tempest and a 120mm cpu cooler and that will be way better than what you are wanting to set up with that expensive fan.

1. You'll short the motherboard if it's on a conductive surface.
2. Your cooling might actually be worse, since a plexiglass + dust filter box will still trap heat, and it won't have localized fans over specific parts of the PC.
3. You won't be able to move the PC at all.
4. Your PC will look like crap. And don't try to tell me you don't care about aesthetics, because if you didn't care how things looked you'd be running at 480p, 30 fps, minimum settings, on a GTX 550, and we wouldn't even be having this conversation because without aesthetics there's no reason to overclock in games.
