second hard drive failing

I know that hard drive failure can cause the PC to freeze, but is this the same for a secondary hard drive (non boot drive)? I'm sure the drive is going to give out soon anyway, it's coming up for 14 years old, but I was wondering if an entire system freeze could be caused by a non boot drive.

Thanks! :)

Solution
yes if the drive controller is going bad it can hang the sata or ide controller causing the whole system to lock up. an easy test is if it a sata drive is to unplug the data cable to the drive if the hangs stop...it the drive going bad..if the system still hangs then it another part.. (run memtest and hardware monitor to check your temps and power supply output)
