Hello just wanted to ask some pros about what can possibly cause my 3 year old hp-2000 to take 20 minute to boot up even in cmd and even in safe mode. It's horribly slow and when it does open it takes another 10-15 minutes to preform any action even longer at times?

did you use a meat thermometer to see if the center of the laptop was 350 deg and safe for eating???
;)

on old laptops could be one of the ram sticks is lose...or the hard drive is going bad. a lot of time slow boots into window is system with a lot of programs in start up and low memory. another issue can be a virus and or more then one anti virus installed on the pc. what I would do is make a cd or usb stick of hirem boot disk . on it is a mini xp boot see if with a clean usb or cd the laptop runs faster. if it still slow slow...ckeck to see if the cpu fan is clean and working...broken cpu fan...cpu runs to hot and has to slow down so it wont over heat. I would google your model and class action lawsuit. a few of the older hp...

I would google your model and class action lawsuit. a few of the older hp laptops had bad system board and bad video chipsets on the system board and bad batterys and power brick recalls. the video chipsets from nvidia were so bad hp and other vendors had to replace the system board at no cost and some of the class action lawsuit for the bad video chipset made the vendor replace the units.

A laptop should usually work longer than 3 years, im using a 7 year old thinkpad wich still works fine. But on the other end a notebook for 300 $ porbably wont last that long :p
Trying to blow the fans out with compressed air often helps.

the older thinkpads were bricks...you had to run them over a few times before they kick the bucket. few years ago nvidia sent a batch of bad gpu chips out. a lot of vendor got them. on those units the system board would just die on people. then a bad batch of battery got out and some laptops went poof.
