i have a asus b85m-g mb from new and a intel core i5 s1150 also from new so neither have been up and working as of yet. however i think i need to update the bios to be compatible with this cpu plus as i don't have a compatible cpu with this board i can't access the bios as of yet can i still update the bios when i am unable to get a signal to monitor and have visuals. i don't have to buy a copatible lesser cpu just to update bios to then make it compatible with the higher spec cpu do i ?

Firstly check you motherboard. Near the edge you should see something saying REV x.x Keep this in mind. You'll need to know it for the next step. Now google your motherboards name, brand and the revision together. You should find (on the appropriate website) the BIOS flash (update) Now, check that this increases CPU support. If not, then do NOT upgrade is it can make your computer faulty. Good luck.

Ah. You have no visuals. Check that all your connectors are in place. Are you using the processors intergrated card or a PCI(E) one?
Also, what is the monitor you are using? What is the input? DVI? HDMI? RGB? VGA?

And if you are trying to flash the BIOS without a CPU I am afraid that is not possible. You may have to buy a new motherboard.
I personally recommend the Gigabyte G1 SNIPER M5.
