I want to have a big screen display at home and I am considering buying iMac. However, I can also pay the same money to get a Macbook Air and a monitor from other brands.
Can you give me some advises?

Thanks!

I would not get the Air unless you really just want a thin system. If you absolutely want a MAC, get their regular laptop and a screen over the iMac.

What's the disadvantage of the Air system?

You pretty much get what you buy, no way to upgrade even RAM,no optical drive, slower CPU.

I do not have a macbook air, but my friend does. I can say, macbook pro or macbook air is great. Even though the macbook air has worse specs, it is still good for casual things like browsing internet, doing homework and such.
What are you going to do on your apple product?

I just need it to write my essays and watch some movies. I will also play some games, such as Don't Starve, Kingdom Rush. (The games I am playing don't require high configurations.) :)

Macbook pro would probably be better, depends on the air's specs.
