I was just wondering why my Phenom II X4 965 can't reach 3GHz
whenever I try to set it higher, it wont boot or im just stuck with a black dispay...
I'm getting anxious. Every site i go to proves that a Phenom is 3.4GHz at stock speed. Heck, they can even go up to 4.0!
Please help..

Much obliged
specs:
ECS A780LM-M2 mobo
7750
8GB dual ram
amd phenom II x4 965 deneb w/ stock fan
tommade PSU 800 watts

Ok I've had a look at your build there, 2 problems I'm afraid:

1: Your motherboard only has support for up to 95w cpu's, the 965 is a 125w processor. Slowing it down will reduce its power consumption which is probably why it boots at 2ghz. You're going to need to get a better motherboard which has 125w cpu support. Something like...

2: That power supply is awful... there are allot of cheap power supply units that claim high wattages however they're usually not very good. The best way to tell if a power supply is worth it or not is to look at how much current it gives on the +12 rail, a good supply will have a single high current rail (e.g. 1 x 12v @ 40A) rather than several low current ones (e.g. 3 x 12v @ 15A). Technically the latter gives more power total (as 3 x 15 = 45A) however its not really possible to combine the rails like that. Personally I'd recommend the Corsair CX series supply. A Corsair CX 500w supply would be better than the one you have and they don't cost a huge amount.
