Sons intro to building machines £650ish

My sons 14th birthday is coming up and I would like to build and mildly overclock a new machine with him. Having not done this for awhile I was looking for advice on parts. I have done 2 builds

at the top end of my budget (price keeps going up the more I look into it.)

and

at more the sort of price I started looking at.

Any help would be great.

I'd get a fx 6300 and a better gpu. Also, get a wd hdd, not seagate.
  2. Sunder

what is the difference betwwen fx6300 and fx6350 (is it just overclocked etc...)

    something like this then http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/eards/saved/4gq6
  3. i think something like this would be more performance for your money.

  4. It's the clockspeed, which you can increase.
  5. Eards, that looks good.
Malaki, your buils will be severely over budget.
  6. Thanks sunder, Malaki build is way over budget (unfortunately). How far can you clock the 6300 with out to much hassle? what is a good gpu? I picked 1 out quickly.
  7. Yes it's a decent gpu, that, or the GTX 760
It depends on the chip to be honest, I dont have much experience with overclocking amd's but people here seem to easily get 4.2-4.3 GHZ
  8. I typed inthe exchange ray in google and it said your budget was $1164... i must have screwed up.
  9. Brits also have a VAT to worry about.
Electronics in Europe are quite a bit more expensive than in the US.
  10. Thanks Sunder, last couple of questions... is the gtx 760 worth £30 more than the r9 270x? Any advice on motherboards...
  11. Malaki your build came in at aroung £860, electronics are alot more in the uk...
  12. The r9 has a better price performance ratio, but the 760 performs better.
If you buy the 760 say you'd get 20 pounds worth of performance but pay 30 pounds extra. Its all down to the budget
  13. The mobo you chose is good.
  14. Also, as malaki suggested, go for an xfx psu
  15. Thanks Saunder. I now have 2 builds £60 apart (depending on money available)

    Cheaper http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/eards/saved/4feR

    Better http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/eards/saved/4gq6
  16. Just realised, because I've been editing the same saves the links are the same all the way through... Soz
  17. oh well that suck. here that is well under budget :/
