Mouse jitter, but the mouse is not the problem.

i5, Win7 64-bit, 8gb RAM, HD7850.
Biostar h61mu3 (latest bios)

Untill last week I enjoyed my Logitech MX518 for years (a God among mice dare I say).
Since a couple of weeks I experienced mouse jitter.
When moving the mouse in a straight line my mouse would sometimes jitter all over the place. It would then stop for a couple of seconds/minutes when I just lifted the mouse from my desk for a second (the same movement you would make when you run out of desk space when you use low DPI).
At first I thought maybe either my mousemat and/or my mouse are dirty so I cleaned both. I even tried without using the mousemat (which I have done fine for years untill I got a mousemat), no fix.
I wasn't using the Logitech drivers (because I never experienced any problems before this), so I installed those to see if they'd make a difference, no fix.
Finally I figured maybe the sensor is just worn out (I think I had the MX518 for over 10 years). I went ahead and ordered the G400S. I got it last week but my mousepointer still jitters frequently.
I mostly work using high DPI (mostly the highest possible) and I know this increases mouse jitter somewhat but the thing is in all those years I have never experienced any noticeable jitter, so it simply can't be the high DPI.
I don't experience these issues when I use the same mouse on my laptop which lead me to believe it is maybe a problem with the usb ports (I tried all the ports, same problems on all of them) or the motherboard somehow.
I also tried raw input using the method described here:
http://www.esreality.com/post/1846538/markc-windows-7-mouse-acceleration-fix/
But that also made no difference.
I am out of ideas and frankly a bit frustrated, it's very annoying when I'm doing some precision Photoshop work for example.
I hope you have some thoughts and ideas for me, would be greatly appreciated!

I have some theories:
- a malware that infected the mouse.drv: 1) run the basic system scan on your antivirus, 2) go to Device Manager, uninstall the drivers of your mouse and restart the PC, 3) download and run HijackThis and send us the log file.
- radio wave interference along the mice wire: 1) check if there is any "new" source of high radio emissor near your equipment.

Thanks for your reply, sorry it took me a while. I followed your instructions, I did 1), 2), and 3). There are no new sources that could interfere with my equipment, I've a pretty empty desk. The scans didn't find any threats. Here is the HijackThis log:

Update your Java versione: http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp (if you use Java 64-bit, update it too (uninstall the old version first)).
After update, go the desktop and press Windows key + R, the Run windows will pop-up. Write 'msconfig' and press Enter. Go to the tab Startup and deselect TeamViewer 9. Go to the tab Services, look for and deselect TeamViewer 9.
Update your chipset: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect

Could you download Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and make it bootable with a pendrive (use Universal USB Installer)?
Boot from the pendrive, choose the option "Test the Ubuntu" and test it a little (just open any program and waste 10 minutes).
The sibe of Ubuntu image is around 500mb; if it is not possible or will take too much time, ask me for another option.

Okay, took me a while to get the boot from usb working (my own inexperience), the mouse jitter is equally noticeable when I'm on Ubuntu. Does this mean it's a hardware issue? I can't be the mouse because it works fine on other systems, the problems remain no matter which usb port I use for the mouse. Do you have any more suggestions?

This is an old thread, but I recently had the same issue. Turned out to be my iPhone. I had the WiFi Hotspot on with the phone sitting on my desk next to the mouse. Once I turned off the Hotspot, it went back to working as expected. Thought I would share and remind folks to look for causes of communication interference when encountering this type of problem.
