Hello,

I've recently purchased a brand new Dell Laptop, Inspiron 17R 5737. The laptop has 16GB memory, Intel Core i7-4500 CPU @1.80Ghz 2.40 Ghz and a 2GB AMD Radeon HD 8870M graphics card. I have installed Grand Theft Auto IV however the game is completely lagging, video plays fine but in game it just jumps from one bit to the next.

Does anyone have any suggestions before I send the laptop back? I was told by Dell this laptop would be good for med performance gaming.

Thanks,
Antony

Some things you might want to check:
1. Have you updated your graphics drivers to the latest ones?
2. Make sure you're plugged in when you're playing (and set it to High Performance mode), since a lot of notebooks gimp the CPU and GPU performance when on battery.
3. You might want to use patch 1.0.4.0 on GTA IV, as that's the version that gives the best performance (I think 1.0.7.0 is the latest, but it doesn't perform as well as 1.0.4.0)

Breakfastdude thank you, the high performance mode worked a treat. Rgd - FYI the game works no problem with great graphics now. Works perfectly with medium performance games. Thanks
