This morning our power got cut. After it got back my 4TB external Hard Drive isn't visible anymore. The LED is glowing on it, indicating it is working. I've tried re-plugging the usb and the power cable but no profit. Is my data in danger and how do I make it work?

Please help me I have lots of important data on it and it's a relatively new hard drive.

Thanks

Chance is that there was a surge of power which has broken the internal hard drive. If your data is really precious, the best way to check is to dismantle the enclosure and take the drive out, but if you do this and the drive still doesn't work internally then you won't be able to send it back for a replacement.

I doubt anything got fried because the LED is glowing when the device is powered on. Is a driver malfunction possible because the drive was in use when it happened?

I plugged the drive into a USB2 port and it works. It's a driver malfunction as I thought. The USB3 one. Thank god. For future reference, if the LED indicator is glowing, but the PC won't read it, you guys should try a different port or PC before writing off the HDD.

This too seems to have cured my problem. Got a Seagate 3TB external hard drive that I have connected through a USB hub. About an hour ago, I started to get a load of 'Delayed Write Failures' Worryingly, the file in question was $MFT. Tried various things like CHKDSK which didn't work until eventually I ended up with a folder structure in which every folder was empty. Wrote f the Hard drive off and tried to reformat which didn't work either. The disk did not even appear in the File Management screen. Started to go on a real downer coz Ive got some really important stuff on here as well as about 500 albums of music and about 800 movies and I really couldn't face having to either reload or re-download. Read this comment and plugged the Disk into to USB port on my laptop. ITS ALL BACK AND TICKETY-BOO !! Whahey. JoeLegacy , pour yourself a longcold one tonight coz you just saved a life ...!!
