I recently replaced an optical drive in a client's Dell Inspiron 530 running Windows XP Home Edition running an Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 @ 2.33 ghz and 2 gb of RAM.. The model of the new drive is a Memorex MRX-550L. After replacing the old drive, it worked fine for about 3 hours and the client returned the system to me. The problem is, it won't read any discs when you first put them in. When you eject it and put it back in, it reads fine...however, the strange part is that the Eject *must* be done through the context menu rather than the physical ejection button. I've tried numerous things including reinstalling the device, checked all cables and connections, made sure the discs aren't dirty, tried multiple discs, as well as attempted updating firmware of the device itself, and ran multiple Microsoft fixits to no avail. Does anyone have any insight or experience with this issue?

Nope, but the first thing I would try is a different drive unit. If it doesn't have the problem, bingo.

I have encountered similar issues and found out that the problem isn't on the optical drive but on the PC's power supply unit. Just try check to check it out.
