I'm looking for a budget video card to allow me to do some moderate gaming on what was formerly my office machine. I think I've narrowed it down to the two options above and am leaning towards to the R7 250, but frankly I'm not sure how much of a difference GDDR5 vs. DDR3 will make.

Which card should perform better?

the r7 250 is at a slower memory bandwidth but will perform overall much better than the gt630.

Always go for nvidia cards unless your playing only battlefield games. Amd runs hotter, uses more power, higher failure rate, and it's slower. Nvidia has better manufacturers, better overclocking potential, more accessories, more stable, generates less heat, all around nvidia is the way to go

This is uneducated fanboyism.

You want to go with the Sapphire R7 250 1GB GDDR5 card http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FLMKHW8.

in know r7 250 can beat a gt 630 but im just saying he should go with nvidia than amd, i had 3 amd cards and they broke down after 3 months, i have a nvidia card and its still going and its been 2 years. nvidia is more stable, it lasts longer as well, for couple of hundred dollars more i would go with a gtx 760

no. they are actually good cards and dont die on you. its actually a dumb idea telling him to go with a lower end card because it lasts longer and has more stuff when amd has that also.

You must have just had extremely bad luck because I've owned several AMD cards and never had a problem.
