win8.1 has so many problems related to limited wifi.....they can be resolved. This one is strangest of all.....says COULDN'T CONNECT TO A NETWORK

I have checked all the drivers they are up to date. Also, installed all the wifi drivers laptop's driver cd

Had the same problem. Couldn't connect on a new laptop running Windows 8, but everything else in the house was fine (wife's laptop on Windows 7, printer, iPhones). Contacted router support (NETGEAR). The tech re-installed the Intel Wireless driver (I was connected via hard-wire, he was in control from remote access). Solved the problem. He said that "kinks" are still getting resolved in Windows 8 and some updates are overriding/conflicting with the installed drivers. My result supports the answer submitted from Quarkzquarkz.

Many new Laptop users with Windows 8/8.1 experience WIFI problems with your connection. Some can connect while others can't connect at all. For those with intel wireless drivers, you can update it immediately at their site for a quick fix. But if you said you already updated via CD, check their websites in Drivers section where they offer up to date info. Good luck!

I had the same problem with three different Windows 8.1 machines when I got FiOS. All my other machines (Windows 7, Macs, iPhones, LG phone, etc.) connected right away, but the Windows 8.1 machines wouldn't do it. I read on forums etc. and found all kinds of complicated solutions that didn't work. I contacted Verizon tonight and they had me do this: choose the home network, right click, then click on "Forget this network". Then I clicked on the network again, and it immediately gave me a spot to enter the network password. The machine connected right away. I tried on another Windows 8.1 machine and it worked as well. I don't know if this will solve your issue, but wanted to mention as I wasted hours of time trying to resolve this. Anyway, good luck!
