Motherboard: MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate

Initial symptoms: So everything was fine, until one day while the monitor stopped receiving data, the fans sped up, and everything became unresponsive. After that it has not worked.

Problem: With just the PSU, CPU and MoBo, when I turn on I get all fans working, but no POST beeps and no display (even through the MoBo's own video output). Additionally, I require a long hold of the power button to turn off. Also if I plug in a CD drive it does turn on, open, close, etc. Also, sometimes after turning everything on, it will all turn off and back on on its own. This can be up to 20 secs from initial on. This makes me think PSU is involved.

Additional Info: While trying to diagnose, I managed to completely break everything, so even the PSU was not turning on (I think - memory is hazy), and then it came back after un/replugging things. Also, atm I have my speaker plugged into the Line-out (green jack port thing) on the back plate of the MoBo, I guess this is right? This build is only about 6 months old (all components). Not the physical power button - all symptoms the same with it unplugged and using paperclip on connectors to turn on.

Specs: PSU - Corsair CX600M, CPU - Intel Core i5-4670K. CPU Fan Coolermaster something-or-other.

What I reckon I should try:
Try new PSU. (I'm a bit poor to do this)
Try new MoBo. (I'm a bit poor to do this)
Try unplugging and re-setting the CPU. (I'm a bit scared to do this - also is CPU relevant?)

What do you guys think the most likely problem is (PSU, MoBo, CPU?), and what do you think caused this? (Dodgy PSU causes damage to motheboard?) How should I proceed?
