Hey guys, this will be my first post on this website and I'm not sure this is in the right section or not so please feel free to move this if needed.

I am building myself a new PC. My current set-up is as follows.

MOBO: EVGA 780i SLI
CPU : Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo 3.6GHz OC
GPU : EVGA nVidia 8800 GTS 640MB SSC Edition
RAM : 4GB

So let me start off by saying that I built this rig for $2,000 six years ago. (Price also includes all other components and peripherals devices) Recently my motherboard went to the toilet and doesn't boot at all. So I was going to just buy another 780i and call it a day when I came to see that it was discontinued and if i was to buy it new I have to pay double what I paid for it 6 years ago. However I got to thinking, Grand Theft Auto V will be released for PC sometime soon and I would love it if my rig could play it on Max Settings, I currently have it for 360 but honestly it looks like trash with no anti-aliasing and all. However, there is no way my machine will be able to run that game on max settings or at all for that matter because it barely runs GTA IV (but that game is really buggy). So I am building a new PC, and I have been out of the loop with computer components for the last 6 years. i7's and the nVidia GTX cards were not yet released when I built my current rig so I do not know much about them.

What I want to build is a PC that will Run GTA V at maximum settings at 1080p. Currently I have picked the following components -

MOBO: EVGA x79 Dark (Newegg Item #: N82E16813188131)
CPU : Intel Core i7 4820K (Newegg Item #: N82E16819116940)
GPU : EVGA GTX 780 Ti SC 3GB (Newegg Item #: N82E16814487001)
RAM : G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (Newegg Item #: N82E16820231588)
HDD : Samsung 250 GB SSD (Newegg Item #: N82E16820147248)

I have a few questions regarding my current set-up. Now I know that GTA V has not yet been release and neither have the recommended PC specifications. Firstly, in your guys' experienced opinions, will this machine run the game at max settings with a 1080p resolution, how about a 2k or 4k resolution (2k & 4k not required just curious). Would I be better/r off with the GTX 780 Ti single ($720) or would I be better off with 2 slightly less powerful cards in SLI? Now before anyone says "Just get the 780 and if it is not enough just buy another one for SLI if it doesn't work." please know that I will not be able to buy another one because I only have enough money to buy anything now and I will not have spending money like this anytime in the near future. I currently have a $2,500 budget which also includes a new case, PSU, peripheral devices and perhaps a monitor but maybe not if I can't afford it. Secondly, last time I bought my PC, literally like 2 weeks later they released the i7's and the GeForce 9 series. Are any new components as such set to be released in the next 2-3 weeks that you guys know of? And finally, what about my MOBO and CPU? Do you guys have any recommendations regarding them? Whether I should upgrade or perhaps downgrade to save money because the parts are too advanced for what I am trying to accomplish?

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced guys!

Mobo: Asus Maxiumus VI Formula
Cpu: Intel core i5 4670k (quad core - 3.4Ghz)
Gpu: 2x Zotac Geforce gtx 780 AMP edition (2-way SLI)
RAM: 16gb (4x4) G.Skill Trident X series 2400Mhz
Psu: Corsair RM850 - 80+ Gold
OS HDD: Samsung 840 Evo BW 120gb

This is what i would recommend for one that has no possibility to upgrade at a later point. This commes in at about 1900$ (Newegg prices), leaving you with 600$ to spend on the case, storage HDD and cpu cooler.

This setup is reliable, can handle any game at the market with highest settings + AA and AF at full without any difficulties + is very much overclockable.

Enjoy.

Here are some edits I would make to your build:

MOBO: EVGA x79 Dark (I prefer ASUS boards, but the EVGA will probably treat you well)
CPU : Intel Core i5 4670K (an i7 is not needed for modern gaming, so save yourself some cash)
GPU : EVGA GTX 780 Ti SC 3GB (This is a great card, but a 770 or 780 would save you money and would still be guarranteed to run GTA v at max settings at 60fps)
RAM : G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (16GB isn't needed for modern day gaming, save yourself some cash and get 8GB or 12GB)
HDD : Samsung 120 GB SSD + 1TB Western Digital Black 7200rpm HDD

I appreciate your edits, however i forgot to mention that i want the pc to not be obsolete for the next 5-10 years. i have 2,500 to spend so as long as its in budget the $ isnt an issue. however thank you for letting me know that the components i picked are more than capable of running gta v

Another question pertaining to ram. The EVGA x79 Dark has quad~channel capability. If I could get ahold of the correct sticks and aside from the difference of capacity; would I be better off with a 3x4gb-DDR3-2666 or 4x4gb-DDR3-2400? Do more channels at a slower speed out way the benefits of less channels at a faster speed? Than again in the end, even though 16gb of RAM is way more than enough, the price difference of trying to get 12GB at a higher clock isn't substantial enough for my efforts, but I'm still curious.

Does anything higher than 2400 really make any real world difference or is this just a dick measuring contest?
