Hi,

I have recently bought the above PSU for my new build and have hit a problem. Basically the cables provided were as follows:

X1 ATX 24-PIN 600mm 25mm
X1 EPS/ATX12V 8-PIN 650mm 25mm
X2 PCI-E 6-PIN & 8-PIN 750mm 25mm
X6 SATA 640mm 25mm
X4 PERIPHERAL 4-PIN 760mm 25mm
X1 FLOPPY 4-PIN 880mm 25mm

So basically my GPU is pretty power hungry and requires that I use all of the PERIPHERAL (I believe they are also called MOLEX cables).

Here lies the problem. I still have 3 more MOLEX cables to power, and obviously I haven't got the needed cable. I do however have 3 SATA cables spare.

I spoke to someone in Maplin today to ask if they had any cable that I could buy,(The cable I need is a 4 pin to MOLEX cable) to which his reply was "They don't exist, you will have to contact Corsair". This despite actually having the actual cable in my PC.

Is there any reason, that I cannot simply buy 3 Molex to Sata converters, and use the spare Sata cables that I have to power these? According to my rhyme and reason, I do not see that there should be any problem theoretically, but this being my first and rather expensive build, I really don't want my theory to be wrong, and I end up with a very expensive desk ornament.

Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers

For a gpu should you use the following cables,

Quote:
X2 PCI-E 6-PIN & 8-PIN 750mm 25mm

the molex cables have nothing to do with it when you have these.

A gpu is the graphics card! Do you mean that?

Ahhhhh, makes a lot of sense. Basically I got two Molex cables supplied with my GPU, so I thought that they had to be used. Thanks it makes a lot of sense. Please could you explain basically what cables I should be using, and what outputs to use. I am a total noob at building and don't want to blow myself up?

Thanks again :)

Look at the next,
http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/2591/build-your-own-pc-...
just for the gpu cables step 12,here they use one 6pin,for your gpu should you use one pcie 6pin and one pcie 8pin cable, the 8pin is a 6+2 pin.
There's also a video at page 14 of the guide.

You can tell I am new at this. I seem to have a problem now somewhere. I have checked all cables are correctly installed etc etc, but when I power on, the system literally powers up for a second, and then just dies. I've gone through the guide, and have kind of hit a brick wall. Any ideas please?
